Their Story
Following their engagement in the Royal Botanic Gardens on 17th of September 2023, Cherry and Dom set out to find their perfect wedding venue.
After weeks of researching, Cherry and Dom discovered The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, and subsequently visited on Friday 1st of December 2023. From its grand entrance to its marble pillars, the prestigious setting is breathtaking; however, it was the New Library that won over Cherry and Dom. As the couple stepped inside the Georgian treasure, they knew this was the place they were to marry, as it perfectly encapsulates their scholastic natures and love of history.
The Venue
Located in the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town, The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh is one of the oldest and most prestigious medical institutions in the world. Established in 1681 by Royal Charter from King Charles II, the College has played a crucial role in the development of medical practice and education, both in Scotland and globally. Through the centuries, the College has continued to promote the highest standards in medicine, supporting physicians through rigorous examinations, training programs, and continuous professional development.
This architectural gem exemplifies the rich heritage of Edinburgh’s New Town, blending Victorian and Georgian design together to offer a glimpse into times past. Rooms adorned with majestic chandeliers, distinguished woodwork, and resplendent fireplaces, have been preserved through the utmost care, and these rooms house medical artefacts and books within the building.
The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh continues to uphold its reputation, providing a hub for intellectual activity contributing to the progression of medicine whilst preserving its historical significance and rich traditions.
Transport
The full address of the venue is:

The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh is located at 11 Queen Street, in the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town. Here are some transport directions to help you reach the College:
By Public Transport:
Bus: Several Lothian Buses routes serve Queen Street and the surrounding area. Bus numbers 23, 27, 29, 42, and 67 are among those that stop nearby. The closest bus stop is on Hanover Street, just a short walk from the College.
Tram: The Edinburgh Trams service runs from Edinburgh Airport to Newhaven. The nearest tram stop to the College is Picardy Place, located about a 5-10 minute walk away.
Train: The nearest train station is Edinburgh Waverley Station, which is the city’s main railway hub. It is about a 10-15 minute walk to the College. Upon exiting Waverley Station, head north across Princes Street and continue onto Queen Street.
By Car:
Parking: On-street parking is available on Queen Street and the surrounding area, but it can be limited and expensive. There are also several public car parks nearby, such as the NCP Edinburgh Castle Terrace Car Park and the St James Quarter Car Park. We do not advise this as parking in Edinburgh is expensive and unreliable.
By Foot:
From Princes Street: Walk north from Princes Street, up Hanover Street, and turn right onto Queen Street. The College is a short walk from here.
By Air:
From Edinburgh Airport: The easiest way to reach the College from the airport is by tram, which takes about 30 minutes to reach the Picardy Place stop. Alternatively, you can take the Lothian Airlink 100 bus or the Airport Express by Brightbus, both of which stops at Waverley Bridge. The airport also has many taxis, which will take around 20-30 minutes depending on traffic.
Places to
Stay
Special rates have been negotiated for guests attending RCPE functions, focusing particularly on accommodation that is within an easy walk of the College. Please mention the RCPE when booking to get the special rates.

Children & Plus-ones
As we are limited in the space of the ceremony venue, we are not able to provide an unlimited amount of plus ones to our guests. Therefore, only those named by invitation will have a seat during the ceremony.
We welcome children who are named on the invitations, but would appreciate knowing of their attendance with plenty of time in advance. This will allow us to cater for the little ones with specific food choices and high chairs. There are facilities for feeding and changing provided.
Dress code
We ask that you wear semi-formal attire such as a cocktail-length dress or dressy separates for women and a suit or kilt for men. Please note that the venue does not permit blue jeans or sneakers.
There is no colour scheme for guests to work within as the venue is full of vibrant colours. However, we would ask that guests avoid the colours green & orange as these are the primary colours for the bridal party.
In order to maximise everyone’s visibility of the ceremony and avoid mishaps in unreliable weather, we ask that hats and fascinators are not worn.
Catering & Cake
“Established in 1983, Pinkerton’s is a small close-knit team where each event is as personal as possible for our clients from an intimate birthday dinner to a conference for 300. We love honest food, and good ingredients are the basis of all our cooking, that in turn makes our food shine for all events. Our chefs are highly trained, skilled and knowledgeable and all bring different skills to the table making us a creative and inspired team. We work closely with our front of house staff and involve them in our menu planning and extensive training for service to allow our food and services to stand out for your event.”
Pinkerton’s catering will endeavour to provide suitable adaptations to our chosen menu for any guest with special dietary requirements or allergies, so please let us know and we can arrange this for you.
A bar will be available for the evening celebrations. Please be aware that in accordance with the local licensing authority, Pinkerton’s staff are trained to implement the CHALLENGE 25 policy, whereby guests over the age of 18 but under 25 will be required to show photo ID if requested. We would also like to inform our English guests that Scotland has a zero tolerance for driving while under the influence of alcohol, so please make plans accordingly.
The couple are lucky enough to have a very talented friend providing the cakes for their day. Anka specialises in vegan cooking and baking which accommodates various dietary requirements.
Happily Ever After
The couple have decided to continue their adventures together by planning a once in a lifetime trip to Japan as a belated honeymoon. As this is the case, they kindly ask for donations towards their travel instead of any physical gifts. Any contributions will be greatly appreciated.
